Business Coaching, Wisdom and Practice authored by Sunny Stout Rostron

…. with contributions from Marti Janse van Rensburg, published by Knowres Publishing (2009) is available on their website at www.kr.co.za Despite being published locally, the book has some heavyweight international endorsements from Nancy Kline, Mark Rittenberg, Carol Kauffman and David Megginson – all key players in the world of executive coaching and coaching education.

The book has been six years in the making and I only wish it had been available when I was undergoing coaching training a few years ago. It’s very readable and user friendly but at the same time is based on theory and research. The author draws on her extensive experience to provide examples that illustrate the concepts she wants to put across. The work is comprehensive and covers many different aspects ranging from coaching conversations, frameworks and models, which are masterfully integrated to the coach’s competences, ethics and supervision. I especially liked the coach’s library at the end of each section. As a whole text, the book serves as an excellent reference guide.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in coaching or becoming a coach but also to those in organisations who want to be coached or who are involved in selecting or matching coaches to clients. It’s easy to dip into the sections relevant to your interest as alongside a logical flow from one to the next, each section is quite self contained.
