Book Review: Bo's Cafe'

“A safe place isn’t a soft place.”

Have some unresolved conflict in your life messing up all your relationships? Feeling exasperated because you give it your best to fix the stuff you carry around but it never really gets resolved?

You might identify with Steven Kerner, the main character in Bruce McNicol, Bill Thrall, and John Lynch’s new novel “Bo’s Cafe’“.

Steven Kerner’s living the dream with his executive level job, beautiful wife and daughter, and even finds time to serve on  Boards for charitable organizations. To look at his life, you’d think the guys got it all.

But wait, if this kind of life is what we all aspire to have then why is Steven Kerner calling the Marriott home and his wife contemplating divorce?

Enter Andy Monroe.

At first glance Steven sizes Andy up as an old Jimmy Buffet groupie with his Dodgers ball cap, ragged blue jeans and loud Hawaiin shirt. Looks can be and often are deceiving.

Steven is compelled to allow a friendship to develop mainly because Andy is a friend of his fathers. What follows is novel about true friendship which delves deep down to the heart of all our issues.

Andy, along with several of his friend’s, provide Steven with conversations that begin to shape his view of himself and of all others around him.  The big question is whether he will accept the Truth and begin to live freely for the first time in his life.

I won’t give the main storyline away, suffice it to say that you will identify with the issues, your mind may be opened to many of our human ‘defense mechanism’, and perhaps you may find the answer you’ve been looking for all your life.

Safe is where you are loved more for revealing your ‘problems’, not less.”

I recommend this novel highly, for the theme, for the revelation of the process and for the colorful characters that come in and out of the story.

Book Review - The Gospel According to "Judas Iscariot" - Inspired by the Devil Series

The Gospel According to Judas Iscariot, 3rd Revised Edition, 917 Pages, Author: Joseph M. Luguya, Published March 2007, Original Books Imprint {Inspired by the Devil Series, by Joseph M. Luguya}.

The Devil professes the Roman Catholic faith! That well kept secret of the Evil One ceases to be a secret when Christian Mjomba, a member of the seminary brotherhood, is tempted to do the unthinkable. He is tempted to use the Evil One as his mouthpiece for expounding on some of the most abstruse doctrines of the Church and turn in a winning theology thesis thereby, and he falls for the bait!

The Gospel According to Judas Iscariot is a story about one man’s journey to hell and back. It is also about the devil’s desire to have his due.

Christian Mjomba, a Catholic seminarian who has been nicknamed “Judas Iscariot” by his fellow seminarians because of his liberal views, is a “prisoner of his own imagination”; and he thinks he can do with a helping hand from Old Scratch of all people. He believes that he can employ the Ruler of the Underworld as his mouthpiece for enunciating the dogmas of the Church, and be able in that way to turn in a winning thesis!

The fact is that, in selecting the topic for his theological thesis, Mjomba was influenced by one thing above all, namely the role that is traditionally played by the so-called Devil’s Advocate in the canonization process in Rome. Mjomba reasons that if it is fine for a cardinal – a Prince of the Church – to step in the shoes of Diabolos and not merely play-act, but represent the Prince of Darkness in a matter of such gravity as the canonization of a saint, there couldnt be anything wrong with a seminarian heading off into the library and bringing himself up to date on everything that had been written about Beelzebub, and then stepping into the shoes of the accursed one and using him to do what he hated to do, and that is work for the salvation of souls instead of their damnation! Actually, Mjomba’s plan is to have the devil reveal his dirty secrets in what he hopes will be the equivalent of Satan’s “State of the World Address”!

But the student soon finds out that it is the devil using him instead of the other way round.

Employing the platform he is offered freely by the unwary seminarian, the Ruler of the Underworld soon enough is comfortably ensconced as the Defender of Truth, and even making the successors to the apostles look verily like neophytes! He pontificates on a slew of subjects as the seminarian obediently commits all to paper. Beelzebub’s sermons on such daunting subjects as the workings of divine grace and damnation will blow you away! The devil takes the position that the Church of Rome is the one, true and apostolic Church founded by the Deliverer, and he musters arguments to prove it – and he has some very convincing arguments in his arsenal!

By happenstance, not long before, a group of Canadian tourists, trudging through a valley near the Dead Sea, had stumbled on scrolls containing a mine of information that not only corroborated the four gospels and the Acts of the Apostles in many respects, but also included a biography of Judas Iscariot. The “Canadian Scrolls” as they are called completely support the position of the Evil Ghost on the Catholic Church!

But that is not all. At about that same time, copper miners in the Mountains of the Moon in Western Uganda had unearthed parchments that turned out to be diaries that the first Man and the first Woman who had ever walked the earth had apparently kept! Known as the Rwenzori Prehistoric Diaries, the parchments, undoubtedly Archaeology’s rarest find, were embedded in molten rock inside a cave.

Other evidence found suggested that the cave had provided shelter to Adam and Eve for a prolonged period, perhaps as long as ten years. Archaeologists from Uganda’s Makerere University, the University of Addis Ababa, Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, and other eminent institutions of learning from around the globe speculated that the volcanic eruption occurred several generations after Adam and Eve had passed on, and that the fossilized human remains found nearby likely belonged to Adam and Eve’s great grand children.

The scientists also stunned the world with their announcement that the evidence had buried, in one fell swoop, the long held notion that humans had evolved from primates. Using new and experimental genetic dating methods, they had revised the dates for the appearance on Earth of homosapiens to sometime between three hundred thousand and four hundred thousand years ago.

The Canadian Scrolls and another remarkable archaeology find in Alexandria, Egypt, that occurred at about the same time and that corroborated the contents of the former and vice versa, along with the Rwenzori Prehistoric Diaries, had turned the world of evangelists and preachers completely upside down.

The Gospel According to Judas Iscariot is a worthy meditation on good and evil. At times, the devil teaches more than the Christian. But overall, the material makes for reading that, as the Midwest Book Review notes, is “hellishly delicious” and guarantees “sheer devilish delight” for everyone, Christian and non-Christian alike.

Twitter Revolution - Book Review

I just finished reading “Twitter Revolution : How Social Media and Mobile marketing is Changing the way we do Business and Market Online” by Warren Whitlock. As a professional blogger who uses Twitter daily, I was excited to read this new book. I was blown away at the quality and depth of this resource.

As the title suggests, this book dives into how Twitter is changing the way we do business and market. The title is a bit long and actually misleading. There was not information about business or marketing at all. In fact, this was a beginners guide that explained what it is all about and we should we care about tweeting and followers and all the rest of it. In that regard, this is a crowning achievement as it is the most comprehensive and easy to understand book on this topic that I have read so far. The coolest part of the book is the way the authors actually utilized their followers to create the book. The followers and actual users of this dynamic resource are as much responsible for the content then Mr. Whitlock is.

I thought that was very clever and it gives the book a unique quality. The most useful part of the book was the chapter that explains the top 10 ten steps to getting more followers. I actually learned a lot form this and will be trying out several techniques later today. After all, if nobody is there to read what you are tweeting, what’s the point?

SEM Business Blueprint, Niche Blueprint and Commission Blueprint About Steve Clayton & Tim Godfrey

If you are involved in internet marketing in the last few years you probably have heard of the products, SEM Business Blueprint, Niche Blueprint and Commission Blueprint. All of the products were created by these two guys, Steven Clayton and Tim Godfrey. If you do not know of these guys or their products and are involved or looking to get involved in affiliate marketing or niche marketing then do some research on their products and you will find none better for teaching you how to succeed at this harsh, competitive market place.

When I am looking to improve my knowledge and to build my business further I like to do my due diligence and learn more about the products and also I really like to know who the person is creating the product or products. It is a search engine marketing business with all the tools, websites, promotional material, spreadsheets, presentations & proposals all inside. You can have a business up and running in two days with only a $200 investment. What other business could you start with such little time and money. The opportunity Steven and Tim have opened up to anyone who purchases their products is so huge there is no way to put a dollar value on it.

Book Review - Germ (By Robert Liparulo)

“If you breathe, it will find you”.

Robert Liparulo’s sophomore novel “Germ” grabs your attention from Chapter One. The non-stop action begins by a statement of facts regarding Dr. Robert Guthrie, a microbiologist, and his development of the Guthrie Test, a medical test performed on newborn infants to detect an inborn error of amino acid metabolism.

Deduction is made of how such technology, in association with gene splicing and in the wrong hands, could selectively target and attack a particular DNA gene in the general population rending a person dead in a matter of days.

Details of the end result of such a virus on humans are graphically described. This is not a novel for the weak at heart. It is intense in its plot, in its characters, and almost non-stop action scenes.

That being said and for those who enjoy an action packed Thriller, this novel of DNA-specific biochemical warfare will take your breathe and not release it until you finish the last page.

Good and evil are presented with equal clarity.

FBI Agents Goodwin Donelley and Julia Matheson, the protagonist, are depicted genuinely, with a sincere, deep friendship.

Dr. Allen Parker and his brother Stephen Parker (almost Doctor turned Pastor) are unsuspecting participants but add much to the story.

Karl Litt, the antagonist, the son of a Nazi researcher, is diabolical and utterly without remorse.

With unexpected twists and turns and several complex story lines, true to the genre, this work kept me in ’suspense’ wondering how all elements would merge to a conclusion. I was not disappointed as the story line ended.

This novel will surprise you as you become acquainted with characters only to learn they do not survive. Not all suspense novels can make such a claim. Unanticipated ends to major characters adds greatly to the development of those characters that remain as well as the plot.

Germ is a Christian Fiction novel. It is entertainment and does not resort to profanity or vulgarity. Great novels rarely do. It takes much more creativity to produce a work that captures the reader with the plot, the characters, and interaction alone.

I recommend this book highly and look forward to more of Robert Liparulo’s work.
